Short Interview with Jen Janet
We have a very special interview with the awesome and multitalented Jen Janet. She is a published model, songwriter, photographer, vocalist and lyricist for progressive art rock project Mimesis, which features members of Scale the Summit, Abiotic and The Beast of Nod, vocalist of Novarium, a D.C. and Baltimore based gothic rock band.

To continue the list, Jen Janet has also released a pop EP called "Dangerous" and her vocals have also been featured on two tracks from hip hop artist Phantom, on his album Mr. Magic. The tracks are "Loud" and "Blood Sucker".

In 2018, Jen Janet was nominated for best female vocalist in the Motif Magazine Music Awards.

Interview with Jen Janet
When and how did you know you wanted to be an artist?
When I was 4 I started singing in front of audiences at my school and entered talent shows. I always loved music and as far as I remember I've always been performing, so it just feels natural to me. Music is a great creative outlet, and I've discovered I love to create lots of things, not just music. The visuals to go along with the music are just as important to me now too.

What are your favourite bands or artists?
I listen to a lot of different types of music - classical, hip hop, metal, indie rock. Right now I'm really interested in the artist Poppy. I think she has great music but also really entertaining videos. I like other unique electronic artists like FKA Twigs and Sevdaliza. For heavier music I really enjoy Ne Obliviscaris - they blend violin, harsh vocals, and clean vocals with metal, and I think their songwriting is really unique for their genre. I also really like the new albums from Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation.

Could you tell us more about your current artistic projects?
Mimesis is a progressive rock project including members of Scale the Summit and Beast of Nod. I genuinely feel like our music doesn't sound quite like anything else that is out there now - the best way I can describe it is Animals as Leaders and Polyphia, but with soft vocals. I really enjoyed writing for this project because the music was very technical and it was a fun challenge. We draw influences from djent, metal, progressive rock, and electronic music.

I'm also the new vocalist for the band Novarium, and we put out a single called Christian Woman, which was a cover of the Type O Negative song. It got great feedback on Youtube, so we are going to release a few original songs as well as an official re-release of that song on our next EP. Novarium is currently in the studio working on mixing and mastering those tracks, for a late 2020 release. We will also be releasing a music video for a song called 'Virus' and it was super fun to film.

Later in 2020 I am also going to be releasing my own solo rock project, just self titled "Jen Janet." So far it sounds kind of like a blend of Pvris, Muse, The Pretty Reckless, and more recently, In This Moment and Within Temptation. I love blending electronic and rock influences. I already filmed a music video for the project as well, and I've been working on a lot of songs for this. Some of the songs I started writing in 2018, so this project was a long time coming. I just wanted to wait until I knew I could pull it off correctly - not just making the music good, but also being able to consistently release high-quality video content myself. I'm super excited to show everyone what I've been working on!
