Interview with Eissa Zhovnerchuk

Reading Time: 2 min.
We interviewed Eissa, vocalist from "Morphide", an amazing progressive / alternative metal band currently based in Copenhagen.
Rockers Den asked Eissa about her projects, influences and Morphide's latest music video "Queen of Blame".
What bands or artists influenced your style?
If I look back, I realize I always loved singers with an unusual style. The ones that stand out with their creativity and vocal diversity.
When I was only discovering heavier music, I fell in love with Jared Leto and his screams. Later I found an amazing female fronted band called Halestorm, and that was the moment I realized I wanted to sing like Lzzy Hale. Her rasp distorted vocals were something I was dreaming about for a long time. It was the first serious vocal goal I have set.
After that I found Tesseract, and this band completely changed my understanding of metal vocals and live performances in general. Daniel Tompkins is undeniably one of the greatest singers in metal, and his screams really hit me hard. So I wanted to learn how to add distortion to the voice like Lzzy Hale does, and scream like Daniel Tompkins. This is what I am still working on.
I am also constantly discovering new bands, analyzing them and searching for those tiny little details and nuances that create a style of a singer and that I could add up to my vocal library.
How would you describe your band Morphide?
Morphide is a progressive metal band that combines heavy riffs and groove with melodic and atmospheric ambient. The biggest influences for the Moprhide currently are Northlane, Spiritbox, Tesseract, Unprocessed and Karnivool.
The whole concept of Morphide can be described as breathing. Every our song is "breathing", having aggression and cool downs constantly change each other. This describes both the instrumental and the vocals, and, probably, this is why I wanted to be able to do both clean and extreme vocals, to be able to follow the feel of the song and add that rage where necessary. If we would have to choose one element, Morphide would be air.
What can you tell us about your latest music video "Queen of Blame"?
"Queen of Blame" is massive project that was created in cooperation with director from UK Stepanie Zapolska. She had this post-apocalyptic feel that she wanted to deliver to the music video, and we decided to confide in her.
There was a huge crew. More than 20 people from 4 different countries participated in shootings. It was cold, rainy and dirty. We basically covered ourselves and everything in the scene with the dirt and dust to create that rusty look.
The story shows a conflict between an engineer that tried to create a device that could possibly save the human race from the extinction and gangsters, only thinking about their greed.
The lyrics also convey the idea of wanting to reach enormously high results with basically no effort at all. And if that doesn't work out, then there comes the blame towards everything.
